Recording artist, Vince Gill, performed for the homeless guests and clients of Waterfront Rescue Mission of Mobile. Gill holds a special place for rescue missions in his heart because his brother, who was an addict, passed away in a shelter almost 20 years ago.
From that experience with his brother, Gill knows firsthand how crippling addictions and homelessness can be, therefore he desires to give back in the way he knows how...sharing his musical talents.
One of the highlights of the performance was when Gill sang "Bread and Water." This song depicts the story of a homeless man who arrives at a mission and receives much more than the bread and water he was initially seeking. While Waterfront Rescue Mission provides a warm meal and a safe night's sleep, it is the overall goal to show love and compassion to individuals who are hurting and in need of long term support. This truly was a special treat for those served by the Mission.
