Celebrating First Workforce Development Graduates Through Bishop State Community College Partnership

Waterfront Rescue Mission is excited to celebrate an important milestone in our growing workforce development efforts through our partnership with Bishop State Community College.

Earlier this year, Bishop State launched a class created specifically for Waterfront Rescue Mission clients, allowing participants in our Mobile recovery and rescue programs to learn and grow together in a supportive environment. The seven-week course combined classroom instruction with hands-on equipment training, equipping participants with practical skills for careers in high-demand industries.

Students attended four-hour classes Monday through Wednesday, beginning with foundational classroom learning before advancing to real-world machine operation. Training included forklift certification, skid steer and heavy equipment operation, OSHA safety instruction, and additional industry-specific coursework. Beyond this inaugural class, Bishop State offers 12 additional specialized training programs, creating even more opportunities for career advancement.

Best of all, these classes are offered at no cost to our clients, removing financial barriers and opening doors to meaningful employment and long-term stability.

We are especially proud to recognize the first graduating class of the Waterfront Workforce Program at Bishop State Community College. Each graduate successfully earned four industry-recognized certifications:

  • OSHA 10
  • ATSSA Flagger
  • NCCER
  • Skid Steer Operator

These certifications represent far more than technical skills. They reflect dedication, perseverance, renewed confidence, and another significant step toward sustainable employment and lasting life change.

Through partnerships like this one with Bishop State Community College, our clients are gaining the tools, training, and opportunities they need to pursue rewarding careers and brighter futures.
